FROM IRENE RODRIGUEZ:
The Irene Rodriguez Dance Company is pleased to dedicate the staging of the show “Emigrants” to Montalvo, performed on July 24 at the 1393-seat Mella Theater, one of the most important theaters in the city of Havana. Before the show, Diúber Farias Aucar, one of the best journalists of our country, who follows and reports on cultural matters for national television, will say a few words to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the artist residency at Montalvo and the 10-year jubilee of the Lucas Artists Residency Program. Parts of the choreography of this piece were conceived during my residency at Montalvo in August 2014, in collaboration with my first dancer, Victor Basilio Pérez. This performance will be filmed in its entirety and sent to Montalvo, in addition to an interview with Victor Basilio Pérez exploring the mission of Montalvo and discussing our experiences there; the importance of your unique support in the development of our artistic creation; the challenges in developing our work; why we have dedicated our performance to you on your anniversary; and our dream of returning one day. Congratulations! |
Synopsis of the performance, "Emigrants"

This is the story of one such young man who arrived on our island to work hard to make his fortune and return to Spain, and who love induced to put down roots in Cuba forever ...
