Title of Artwork:
Heat Wave Table

Original Plan: Go to the mountains north of the city July 24th, 2015. Select a trail that resembles as much as possible a Montalvo trail. Through the journey/walk, collect materials and then create an artwork upon return to the studio. Forward Google Map of the location of walk, images of the walk and final artwork.

Modified Plan: July 24th, heat wave alert, extreme temperatures hovering 105 Fahrenheit, dangerous to be outdoors for long. Instead of heading to the mountains, I walk out onto my garbage-infested street, find small debris on sidewalks and asphalt, photograph, collect and bring back to studio to organize by color. Distribute on my white table, creating a color-coded street.

Inspiration: My series Small Data began in Montalvo by walking out of my studio and collecting twigs, rubber bands and leaves found on the grounds and trails. The series developed into 12 artworks that have been exhibited in New York, Madrid, Geneva, Bogotá and Sao Paulo. Today I also walked out of my studio to collect materials for an artwork, yet to a radically different environment to the quiet and green Montalvo grounds. Heat Wave Table brings back the origins of Small Data, and is dedicated to the Montalvo Residency Center that gave it birth.
